Andy Lau (劉德華) and his "children" Andox and Blackie (黑仔) were guests at the launch of his design for the McDonald's World Children's Day Bear at an event in Causeway Bay today. They were joined by Ronald McDonald and revealed Andy's t-shirt design for the bear that will form one of a set that will be sold to raise money for the Ronald McDonald children's charities.
Other celebrities who have designed t-shirts for the bears have included Joey Yung (容祖兒), Eason Chan (陳奕迅), Eric Kot (葛民輝) and Jan Lamb (林海峰). Andy's design features caricatures of Andox and Blackie on a red background.
Andy himself was wearing a shirt that had a picture of Andox embroidered on it. He explained that this was a gift from a tailor friend and it is the only one ever made. Andy laughed that Andox and Blackie are becoming more popular than him now, but he smiled that he can say things indirectly through his characters. When reporters asked jokingly if they could interview Andox and Blackie, Andy happily gave his permission, but warned not to hit them with the microphones.
Asked about rumours that he has made a profit of over HK$100 milllion from investments during the financial tsunami, Andy asked the reporters not to make these stories up because the tax office is very sensitive. He emphasised that he does not have the ability to make so much money.
Questioned about Shu Qi (舒淇)'s comment that his fee for a movie being up to ten times as much as others, Andy said modestly that he has always been cheap labour and if it goes any lower, there will be nothing left for him. Asked about suggestions that he has recently taken a romantic holiday with girlfriend Carol Chu (朱麗倩) in Paris, Andy refused to answer and walked away.
